You Handsome Devil - 11/23/2016
One of the most unusual Detroit-themed photo books available this holiday season is yet another guide to Detroit, but featuring a mythological mascot: Le Nain Rouge.
It’s written and photographed by Dave Krieger, who says he began the project as a reaction to the “ruin porn” of the last decade. Instead of that, Krieger wanted to create an upbeat book about the intact beauties of the city.
Things I Do in Detroit: A Guide Book to the Coolest Places by the Nain Rouge
Detroit native Dave Krieger’s second book about Detroit, told through the eyes and ears of the Nain Rouge, features quotations from Detroiters, people who once lived here and visitors who’ve said things worth sharing. The list includes everyone from from Tim Allen to Thomas A. Edison, Charlie LeDuff to Charles Lindbergh. For those new to the Nain Rouge, Krieger offers a primer. As the legend goes, Detroit founder Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac saw an ominous red devil in a nightmare that was deemed a portent of disaster for the city. Krieger’s Nain Rouge is a gentler devil, even a protagonist for the city. The quotations from figures from the arts, sports and politics ultimately celebrate the city and its people.

What’s The Story Of Detroit As Told To The Nain Rouge? New Book Stuffed With Quotables From Notables - 11/25/17
There’s a new guide book to Detroit by none other than the Nain Rouge himself, and it’s excellent - 12/3/2016
There is a new Detroit guide book now available for purchase, Things I Do In Detroit: A Guide Book To The Coolest Places By The Nain Rouge. This isn’t your run of the mill guide book; this one is from the perspective of our very own red gnome.
Perhaps you know the Nain Rouge from the annual Marche du Nain Rouge that draws creatively clad celebrants to Midtown Detroit. The legend behind the Nain is that Detroit's founder, French explorer Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, saw an ominous red devil in a nightmare that was deemed a portent of disaster for the city.
As spirits go, the Nain was no angel. But a kinder, gentler fiery-looking dude is featured in a new book, "Things I Do in Detroit: A Guide Book to the Coolest Places by the Nain Rouge." It's a collection of photos that reveals the Nain (well, a convincingly costumed stand-in) is actually a city booster who loves its rich legacy and sites.

Detroit's fabled gnome, the Nain Rouge, shares his favorite locations in this visually rich guide book of amazing things to see and do in Detroit.
It's written by Dave Krieger, who joined Fox 2 on Tuesday.
If you haven't had a chance to check out Things I Do in Detroit by local writer, photographer, and confirmed oddball Dave Krieger, there are copies on hand at the market to meet your needs. This visual survey of Detroit follows a character dressed as the Nain Rouge, a scheming red devil, who, according to legend, has caused all of Detroit's many problems — and who is cast out in the annual Marche Du Nain Rouge celebration and parade through the Cass Corridor.
Demonstrating familiarity with some of Detroit's hidden gems and with a sharp eye for detail, Krieger's book humorously unfolds Detroit for your delighted giftee.
Detroit’s history and the legend of the Nain Rouge are entwined. And if you are a fan of the Nain Rouge then I have just the thing for you. This book is a who’s who of Detroit. Considering the Nain Rouge has been kicking around these parts since the Cadillac you know he’s seen some stuff. There are quotes from some of our most loved Detroiters like Stevie Wonder, Emily Gail, Gilda Radner, and Della Reese.
This isn't your ordinary guide book to seeing the best attractions in Detroit. Written and photographed by Dave Krieger, the book (called "Things I Do in Detroit: A Guide Book to the Coolest Places by Nain Rouge) shows some of Detroit's attractions through the eyes of our famous devilish creature, Le Nain Rouge.
Really saying something — Readers may recall that last year's Gift Guide featured a story about Dave Krieger's book Things I Do in Detroit: A Guide Book to the Coolest Places by the Nain Rouge. That coffee table book had reimagined Detroit's mythological mascot as a suave and debonair man about town, featuring scores of photos of him socializing as if nothing were abnormal. This year, Krieger gives us a thick little book with hundreds of quotes from Detroiters over the last three centuries, hence the jokey title: Things People Say About Detroit: A Collection of Quotes as Told to the Nain Rouge. It's the perfect stocking stuffer for that history buff, destined to occupy a spot atop their toilet tank in the new year and beyond.
